He has worked with individuals and businesses in a number of areas, including planning issues, guardianship and trust administration, as well as will and trust contests and construction. Earning a Bachelor's degree at Bowdoin College in Maine in 1970, after completing his JD, Mr. Stuart was admitted to practice in Illinois, the Central District of the U.S. District Court in Illinois, the Supreme Court of the United States, and the U.S. Tax Court.
A fellow of the Illinois State Bar Foundation, the American Bar Foundation, and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, Mr. Stuart is a member of the Chicago, Metro St. Louis and the Illinois Bar Association, where he also served as chair of the Estate Planning Section Council. He has worked with the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education and National Business Institute on providing materials to fellow professionals.
Mr. Stuart has served as club president, district governor and international director in Rotary International. He has received both the Citation for meritorious service and distinguished service awards for his contributions to Rotary International. He is the regional chair of the National Eagle Scout Association, having served as council and area president. He has received the silver beaver, silver antelope and distinguished eagle awards. He is president of the National Recreation Foundation and immediate past president of the Abraham Lincoln Association.
Committed to his community, Mr. Stuart chaired the Springfield Chamber of Commerce and the United Way Campaign. He has served on various boards of trustees, including the Memorial Medical Center Foundation, the Illinois State Museum Society YMCA and Goodwill Industries. He is an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
The proud father of two, Mr. Stuart has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer every year since 2003, a Super Lawyer by Chicago Magazine every year since 2004, and as one of the top 50 leading consumer lawyers in downstate Illinois.
