Dr. Whetltle continued to serve St. Agnes, and in 1978, she accepted a position as theology lecturer with Mount de Sales Academy in Baltimore, becoming chair of the religion department in 1979. She was named a trustee of the academy from 1979 to 1982, and in 1986, she retired from teaching. Dr. Wheltle has additionally served as a speaker with the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Birthright of Maryland, Howard County Right to Life, and St. Martin's Home for the Aged. She has taught in and was chairman of the theology department and the business law department of Harmony Hill High School in South Dakota.
Dr. Wheltle has dedicated much of her retirement to religious education, and notably served with the school board of Resurrection-St. Paul School and the Jeanne Jugan Association, as well as the Little Sisters of the Poor in the 2000s. She has been an ardent supporter of the Board of Christian Formation, the St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, the Corban Corporation, and the national catechism directory committee for St. William of York. Dr. Wheltle co-founded and served as the first president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the St. Martin's Home for the Aged.
