LOS ANGELES, CA, October 20, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Shelley Morrison with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Morrison celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A long-standing actress who is perhaps best known for playing Rosario, Karen's maid, on the hit television show "Will & Grace" from 1999 to 2006, Shelley Morrison was born and raised in The Bronx, NY, and comes from a very loving Hispanic family. Much of her success, which began to take shape during her studies at L.A. City College, has since included more than 50 years in show business, co-starring in feature films alongside well-known actors like Gregory Peck, William Holden, and Anthony Quinn. She has become known as a pioneering female stage producer, radio and television star on hit shows like "Laredo" and "The Flying Nun" starring Sally Field, and in movies like "Divorce American Style," "Funny Girl," and "Mackenna's Gold."
Introduced to Walter Dominguez in 1973, a documentary filmmaker from Southern California, on the set of an independent feature film on which they were both working, the two eventually tied the knot. After a brief hiatus from Hollywood, she made appearances on television shows like "Murder She Wrote," "LA Law," "Home Improvement," "Columbo," and "Sisters," and films that included "Troop Beverly Hills," "Max Dugan Returns," and "Fools Rush In". But it was in 1999 that Ms. Morrison landed one of her all-time favorite roles, when she was cast on the sitcom "Will & Grace." The television show earned a 2000 Emmy for Best Comedy and, in 2001, the cast received a SAG Award for Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series. The show also earned a GLAAD Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Meanwhile, Ms. Morrison received three American Latino Media Arts nominations for supporting actresses.
Ms. Morrison later formed a production company in 2001 with her husband, Chasing Light Pictures, LLC, in order to create cross-border and multi-cultural documentaries. It was during this time that she served as executive producer on an acclaimed documentary feature film, "Weaving the Past: Journey of Discovery," which her husband wrote, directed, and produced. She also executive produced a documentary called "Whitewashed Adobe: The Rise of Los Angeles" alongside her husband. The four-part history of Los Angeles that was set for public television was written and directed by her husband. In 2006, Ms. Morrison joined the cast of Disney Channel's continuing animated series "Handy Manny," playing the voice of Ms. Portillo.
Honored alongside her husband for their work with the homeless in Los Angeles in 1985 as well as for their work during the Los Angeles riots in 1992, Ms. Morrison was nominated for Alma Awards by the Screen Actors Guild four times between 2000 and 2006, and received a People's Choice Award for "Will & Grace" in 2004. She was also the recipient of an Eternity Award for Lifetime Achievement, which was awarded to Ms. Morrison at the 12th Annual Los Angeles Women's Theater Festival in 2004, and was an inductee into the Bronx Walk of Fame that same year with a street sign named in her honor. Unveiled on 159th Street and Grand Concourse Boulevard, she joins a host of past honorees that have included Secretary of State Colin Powell, filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, and talk-show host Regis Philbin.
Humbly involved in her community, Ms. Morrison has been known to support various charities, including Animals Needing Generous Endowments of Love & Support, a Los Angeles area shelter called Animal Acres, and various HIV/AIDS organizations. A four-time cancer survivor, she also proudly supports the American Cancer Society, and participated by leading the Sea of Pink Survivors Ceremony for the 9th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Los Angeles. Ms. Morrison and her husband both served on the board of directors of the Los Angeles United Methodist Museum of Social Justice until 2013. They share six adopted children together - three boys and three girls.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Shelley Morrison has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
