Driven to succeed by witnessing the results and positive impact on patients who are cared for and the healthcare workers who soar, Dr. Batcheller has spent her entire career trying to make a difference in the nursing industry. As a child, she was hit by a truck and seriously injured, inspiring her to help others like she was helped by a team of skilled, professional nurses. Today, Dr. Batcheller serves as an executive nurse advisor for the Center for the Advancement of Healthcare Professionals for AMN Healthcare, and as an adjunct professor for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing in Lubbock, Texas. Prior to these roles, she served as chief nursing officer for 19 years with the largest health care system in Central Texas. Dr. Batcheller created and implemented a system wide shared governance model and led a pilot site for the RWJF/IHI Transforming Care at the Bedside Project, eventually implementing its principles into patient care at all system facilities. Under her watch, nine of the system hospitals achieved several ANCC designations, four with Magnet and five with Pathway to Excellence.
Beginning her career with a challenging, worthwhile experience in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Batcheller's vision helped her move forward in the direction of her goals. She first earned a diploma in nursing from the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. Dr. Batcheller then went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, part of the San Antonio School of Nursing, in 1980. Dr. Batcheller completed a Master of Science in Nursing at The University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio School of Nursing in 1984, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing in 2010. Board certified in advanced nursing administration by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, as well as a Fundamentals of Magnet Certificate. Dr. Batcheller was inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in 2009.
Dr. Batcheller specialized in chief nursing officer (CNO) on-boarding and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on the subject. Most recently, she created a CNO Academy for new and aspiring CNOs. A second academy was just launched in Washington, DC, which has been designed for experienced CNO. . Additionally, Dr. Batcheller is part of the faculty for the executive nurse Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Texas Tech. As a member of the Texas Nursing Association, Dr. Batcheller also served as for the chair of the Healthcare Systems Excellence Panel for the American Academy of Nursing. She is now the CGEAN vice president for programs and professional development, and is slated to be the 2018 chair of the program planning committee for INARC.
Dr. Batcheller aspires to assure quality education and development of future nursing leaders. Her lifelong goal has been to make a difference in other people's lives. She is currently involved in work at the national level to support changes that foster a culture of health. Dr. Batcheller loves to take time for herself to travel, and also to dance. She is a proud mother of a son and daughter and lastly volunteers with the Austin Humane Society.
