Recognized as a professor emeritus of the University of North Texas since 2016, Dr. Bullock taught at the esteemed institution for 37 years in the department of educational psychology. Specializing in special education and behavior management, he originally began his career in the classroom as a teacher and counselor in the Oklahoma City Public Schools in 1959 and at Wichita Public Schools in Kansas in 1963. Entering higher education in 1969 as an assistant professor at Central State University in Oklahoma, he later taught at the University of Florida, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Louisville before being accepted to the faculty of the University of North Texas in 1979.
Dr. Bullock earned a Bachelor of Science in Education at Southwestern College, a Bachelor of Art in Sociology and Education at Oklahoma City University, a Master in Religious Education at Southwestern Theological Seminary, a Master of Education in Guidance, Counseling, and Special Education at the University of Oklahoma, and an EdD in Special Education at the University of Kansas. Dr. Bullock has been known for being actively involved in his field by giving presentations, hosting speaking engagements, and lecturing on various topics in education. He has also contributed more than 100 monographs, book chapters, and peer-reviewed journals throughout his career, most recently including "Mental Health and the Juvenile Health System" Issues Related to Treatment and Rehabilitation," an article he co-authored in June 2017.
A longtime member and former president of the Teacher Educators for Children with Behavioral Disorders, member and former president of the Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders, member and former vice president, president-elect, president and past president of the Council for Exceptional Children as well as the Teacher Education Division of the Council and the Pioneer Division of the Council. Dr. Bullock continues to volunteer his time for various organizations. The recipient of the Wallace E. Wallin Award, the highest award given by the Council for Exceptional Children in 1995, the Fred Weintraub Leadership Award from the Council in 2016, the Romaine P. Mackie Award in 2015 by the Teacher Education Division, and a Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders Leadership Award in 2014. These are just a few of the many accolades Dr. Bullock has received over the years. He has also been named in several editions of Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
