Dr. Alexander is a private practice psychiatrist in Ashland Oregon, where she offers a service informed by over 40 years of experience practicing psychiatry in New York City and Dallas. Before entering psychiatry, Dr. Alexander had an avid interest in science that evolved as she worked in research labs during summers while a student at Vassar College. The labs were tied to local hospitals, and she learned about real cases that affected real patients. At first, Dr. Alexander worked in the field of internal medicine, but slowly grew to become interested in the interface between the physical body and the brain. She earned an MD from New York University in 1966, and went on to work with the State University of New York as a director of the health service. In 1983, Dr. Alexander received an MPH from Yale School of Medicine and trained in psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. In 1991, she joined St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital as director of outpatient child and adolescent psychiatry.
In 1992, Dr. Alexander married Joel Feiner and transitioned to Dallas, Texas, where she joined the University of Texas as training director of child and adolescent psychiatry. She served the university for eight years while bringing up her children, Deirdre McCormack, Peter Alexander, and Margo Murray. Dr. Alexander served concurrently as a psychoanalyst with the Dallas Psychoanalytical Center and a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center before starting her private practice in 2000.
Additionally, Dr. Alexander has lent her expertise to the next generation of psychiatrists on the Dallas board of examiners for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as well as the education committee of the Southwest Medical School. She is a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
For many years of dedication to nurturing the mental well being of the future, Dr. Alexander was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, and the 2010 volume of Who's Who in the World. She enjoys yoga, reading, hiking, walking, tending her vegetable garden, her dog, and the company of nine grandchildren.
