She is a committed teacher and has been in the teaching profession (1972-till date) and held responsible positions of Vice Chancellor of Noida International University (2015-till date); Acting Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University (2014-2015); Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences (2005-2008); Professor and Head, Deptt. of Mathematics (2000-2003); Head, Deptt. of Computer Science (2007); Associate Professor in Deptt. of Mathematics (1985-1993); Assistant Professor of Mathematics (1972-1985), Jamia Millia Islamia University and Visiting Assistant Professor at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada (1986-1987).

During this period 23 number Ph.D. degrees have been awarded to students working under her direct supervision. Dr. Dewan has authored three books namely "Theory of Polynomial and its Applications" (2005), "Management of Modern City Transportation" (2004) and "Mathematics in the 21st Century" (2004) which are very acclaimed in their respective specialities. Her articles have been published regularly in Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications; Journal of Approximation Theory; Bulletin of Australia Mathematical Society; Glasnik Mathematicki; International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics Students; Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics and Indian Journal of Transport Management etc.
Dr. Dewan has been Chairperson of the Board of Studies/ Office of International Affairs Departmental Research Studies (DRS)/ Examiner for Ph.D. etc. of many universities some of which worth mentioning are:- Delhi University, G.G.S. To encourage Inter Disciplinary Research, she established a "Center for Inter-Disciplinary Research in Basic Sciences" in 2006 under the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Jamia Millia Islamia with a grant of Rs. 25 crores obtained by the University Grants Commission.
The daughter of Pritam and Shakuntla Rai, Dr. Dewan was born on July 4, 1950 in New Delhi, India. On December 4, 1973, she married Sikander Mohan. Together, the couple raised one child, Puja. Dr. Dewan has been featured in various Marquis Who's Who publications, including the first and second editions of Who's Who in Asia.
