BOTHELL, WA, October 26, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Chuan-Tau Edward Lan with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Lan celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Generations of students at the University of Kansas have passed through Dr. Lan's classroom, going on to become professionals in the aerospace engineering industry. He is noted for holding the J.L Constant distinguished professorship with the university from 1998 to 2007, and the Warren S. Bellows distinguished professorship for six years prior. Dr. Lan wrote the book "Applied Airfoil and Wing Theory" in 1988 and "Airplane Aerodynamics and Performance" in 2008.
Initially educated at National Taiwan University, Dr. Lan earned a Master's degree with the University of Minnesota and went on to complete a PhD with New York University in 1968. He worked as an assistant engineer with the New York City Board of Water Supply, and in 1968, he arrived at the University of Kansas to serve as an assistant professor in the department of aerospace engineering. Though a water engineer may not sound relevant to an aerospace engineer, the principles of fluid dynamics are similar in both cases, and Dr. Lan was recognized for his expertise with the role of professor in 1978. He became a naturalized citizen in 1972, and with the position of professor and the additional role of principal investigator at the Center Research Inc. in Lawrence, Kansas, he was able to settle his wife, Sumy Chen, and children Susan, Justin, and Austin, in Kansas.
Dr. Lan was honored with the Warren S. Bellows title in 1992, and received the J.L. Constant title in 1998. He was granted the revered status of professor emeritus in 2007 after 39 years of teaching at the University of Kansas. Over many years in the field, Dr. Lan operated with the assistance of a grant from NASA from 1972 to 2005, and received the 2000 American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Aerodynamics Award. An associate fellow of the institute, he is also a member of Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Gamma Tau.
Dr. Lan was selected for inclusion in six volumes of Who's Who in America, two volumes of Who's Who in American Education, three volumes of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and the 1986 to 1987 volume of Who's Who in the Midwest. In his spare time, Dr. Lan enjoys classical music.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Lan has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
