Virginia A. LiVolsi, MD Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. LiVolsi has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the medical industry

PHILADELPHIA, PA, October 27, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Virginia A. LiVolsi with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. LiVolsi celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. LiVolsi is an accomplished professor of pathology serving with the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, part of the celebrated Penn Medicine system. She is noted for having been involved with the pathology review of thyroid tumors that arose in children following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, and was invited as an American representative and presenter to the 20th anniversary panel of the accident at the United Nations in 2006. Dr. LiVolsi's expertise is built on an illustrious academic career and the recognition of international pathology experts, who join her in the pursuit of ending human illness.

Born in New York to Epifanio and Mary Ann LiVolsi, Dr. LiVolsi initially became interested in ophthalmology as a child while watching relatives go through issues with eye problems. She graduated the College of Mount St. Vincent in New York City with a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, and the intention of becoming an eye doctor. While studying at the medical school of Columbia University, she became interested in pathology, and went on to teach with Columbia as a pathology instructor for one year. She continued adding to her Ivy League background by accepting a role with the Yale-New Haven Hospital and the school of medicine at Yale University as an attending pathologist and assistant professor, respectively. In 1979, she became an associate professor, and in 1975, Yale appointed Dr. LiVolsi to the position of director of cytology.

It was in 1983 that Dr. LiVolsi was presented with a Master of Arts, honoris causa, from the University of Pennsylvania. In that year, she made the transition to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, initially as director of surgical pathology. Just three years later, the Number Four light water graphite moderated reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant was destroyed in one of the worst disasters to happen in the history of nuclear energy. The updraft continued to pollute the surrounding area for nine days, resulting in subsequent cancer related fatalities. Due to pathologists like Dr. LiVolsi, the international community was able to track the true extent of the damage from the disaster.

Dr. LiVolsi is also proud of her time as president of the United States-Canadian Academy of Pathology from 2003 to 2004. Besides leading the premiere academic pathology society in North America, Dr. LiVolsi has supported the Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists, the American Thyroid Association, the College of American Pathologists, as well as the Association of Directors of Anatomic and Surgical Pathology. She was selected for inclusion in the 1997 to 1998 volume of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, the 1992 to 1993 volume of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and the 1993 to 1994 volume of Who's Who in the East.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. LiVolsi has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
