A recognized authority in the field of metallurgical engineering, Mr. Koucky served as the vice president of 300 Below, Inc., for 20 years prior to his retirement. In this position, he was noted as one of the original business partners and investors of the mining and metals company, which processes in excess of a million pounds of steel and components per year. Established in 1990, 300 Below, Inc., is widely known as the founder of commercial cryogenic processing. Since its inception, the company has establishing more than 100 operations in multiple countries, all using 300 Below's cryogenic processors.
Prior to pursuing a career as an engineer, Mr. Koucky received a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1957. During this time, he also served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army for one year. Mr. Koucky went on to complete an MBA at Northwestern University in 1959. Early in his career, he served as a metallurgist and assistant plant manager with Fansteel Metallurgical Corporation. In 1964, Mr. Koucky joined General Motors Corporation as a supervisor of production engineering. During the next 30 years, he assisted Wagner Castings Company in a variety of roles, which included working as a manager of production engineering technology, plant manager and vice president of engineering.
An experienced manufacturing executive, Mr. Koucky joined Gulf & Western as a vice president and general manager of the Pennsylvania mall iron division in 1979. He went on to serve as a vice president of technology with Wagner Laser Technologies from 1989 to 1994. During this time, he also filled the role of vice president with the Decatur Manufacturing Company. Mr. Koucky served as the vice president of 300 Below, Inc., from 1993 to 2013.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Koucky has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World. In addition, he was selected for inclusion in the 8th, 11th and 12th editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering. Although Mr. Koucky is now retired, he continues to maintain involvement with a variety of scientific organizations, including the American Society of Metals, American Foundry Society, Ductile Iron Society, Iron Castings Society, Society of Automotive Engineers, University of Illinois Department of Materials Science Alumni Association, Gray Iron Founders Association, and Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering.
