He is a noted patentee in his field of expertise, with noted accomplishments in the development of lead free Steuben crystal; development of optical waveguide coatings and coating applicators; and design and development of the first, all dielectric, low-loss optical waveguide cable which could be used in the presence of high electromagnetic fields. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Miller has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. He was also selected for inclusion in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, which were published between 1993 and 2004. In addition, Dr. Miller was named the recipient of the AART Award by the Association for the Advancement of Radiation Technology in 1990.
Inspired by a lifelong desire to pursue a career in science, Dr. Miller attended Ohio University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in 1956. He went on to complete a PhD at Case Institute before accepting a role as a research associate with the institute in 1963. Between 1964 and 1997, Dr. Miller held various roles with Corning Inc. in New York, including as a research physicist, senior research physicist, development associate and senior research associate.
In addition to maintaining a lucrative career in the area of scientific research, Dr. Miller also shared his knowledge as an educator. Between 1966 and 1969, he held the role of special lecturer of physics with Elmira College. He was later recognized as an adjunct instructor of physics with Finger Lakes Community College between 2001 and 2002. Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Miller has contributed articles to professional journals pertaining to his areas of expertise. He is a former member of the Editors Board and Advisory Board with Fiber and Integrated Optics. Dr. Miller maintains involvement with a variety of professional organizations, including Sigma Xi, Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi.
