Born in Wahiawa, Oahu, Hawaii, retired occupational therapist Mrs. Murray has traveled the country for her work. Beginning in 1958, she was a therapist for the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita, Kansas. A year later, she moved back to Hawaii to serve as a senior therapist at Hawaii Sate Hospital in Kaneohe. By 1963, she had relocated once again, this time to Pennsylvania to work as a part-time therapist for the Centre County Center for Crippled Children and Adults at the State College.
In the 1980s, Mrs. Murray had worked her way up to a supervisory role as an occupational therapist at Fairview Training Center in Salem, Oregon, where she remained for a decade until 1994 when she accepted the opportunity to work as an occupational therapist for the U.S. Naval Hospital, first in Okinawa, Japan, and then for U.S.N.H. Yokosuka, Japan's divisions in Yokota, A.B. in Western Tokyo, and lastly in Misawa A.B. in Japan, until she officially retired in 2010. Because of her 15 years of service with the military, she was later honored with a Meritorious Civilian Service Medal.
Mrs. Murray received a Bachelor's degree at the University of Hawaii in 1956, followed by certification in occupational therapy at the University of Puget Sound two years later. A longtime member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, the Oregon Occupational Therapy Association, and the Hawaii Occupational Therapy Association, she served in numerous roles for these esteemed organizations. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Mrs. Murray was also heavily involved in her community. Mrs. Murray served as a member of the Ashland Park and Recreation Board, as a representative from Umatilla County Commissioners to Blue Mountain Economic Development Council, served as vice chairman of the LINC advisory board, and was a member of the Liberty-Boone Neighborhood Association executive board. She was also appointed by the governor as the first woman to serve on the State Board of Engineering Examiners, now called the State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying.
Enjoying the good life in Salem, Oregon, Mrs. Murray has been happily married to Joseph Edward Murray since 1961. She has three children: Michael Joseph Murray, Susan Kei Mallal, and Leslie Ellen Heath, who is married to Bradley Heath.
