Retired investment executive and chartered financial analyst, Ms. Bowles is most proud of her 17-year contribution running her own investment management firm, The Kenwood Group Inc., as founder, president, and chief executive officer. Overseeing the management of mid-cap portfolios from 1989 to 2006, she also served as the firm's chairman from 2000 to 2006. Boasting more than 25 years of experience in investment management, securities analysis, and investor relations, Ms. Bowles worked in various roles for First National Bank of Chicago (J.P. Morgan), including bank official and vice president, between 1968 and 1981. Furthermore, Ms. Bowles has previously served as an assistant vice president and director of investor relations for Beatrice Companies Inc. and vice president of investor relations for Kraft, Inc., for nearly a decade before establishing her firm.
Ms. Bowles formed The Kenwood Funds in 1996, and spent a year as vice chairman of Profit Investment Management after the acquisition of The Kenwood Group Inc., from 2006 to 2007. Ms. Bowles was also known for having served in many leading roles such as president of the Landers Bowles Family Foundation, a non-profit organization, as well as director of Hospira Inc., Dollar General Corporation, Wisconsin Gas LLC, WEC Energy Group Inc., and the Chicago Urban League, among others. Additionally, she has served on the board of directors for Black & Decker Corporation and Georgia-Pacific Corporation, as well as chairman at her alma mater, Fisk University.
A lifetime member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and trustee for Fisk University for more than 15 years, Ms. Bowles earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at Fisk University with honors in 1968 and a Master of Business Administration in Finance at the University of Chicago in 1971. Inspired by her mother, who helped to start a credit union business, Ms. Bowles vividly remembers how she would interact with clients and form lasting relationships. Between the ages of 10 and 14, her mother would allow her to reconcile the numbers, which eventually led to her majoring in math in college. Married to Earl Stanley Bowles with one son, Ms. Bowles loves to play tennis and bridge in her free time.
