PHILADELPHIA, PA, October 31, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Daniel Kleier, Ph.D. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With extensive experience in physical organic chemistry, computer-aided molecular design and chemoinformatics, Dr. Kleier has more than three decades of experience as a principal investigator, project manager and technical group leader. Since 2004, he has used his expertise to embark on a second career in higher education at Drexel University, where he has been a senior instructor and associate teaching professor. In this role, he is credited with designing introductory chemistry courses, developing simulated laboratory projects, teaching online curriculum, and publishing laboratory manual and eText for applied chemistry.
In addition, Dr. Kleier has taught courses in physical chemistry with topics including electrochemistry, quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, chemical kinetics, spectroscopy and surface science. Regarded for his excellence as an educator, Dr. Kleier is known for being an innovative problem-solver with strong analytical, organizational, communication and leadership skills. He shares his insight and knowledge on a larger scale in his professional community through his memberships with the American Chemical Society and the Sigma Xi Scientific Honor Society. Dr. Kleier has published more than 60 research publications in refereed journals and performed more than 50 presentations at professional meetings, university seminars and group meetings.
Before pursuing his work as an educator, Dr. Kleier spent nearly two decades in progressive roles with Dupont Crop Protection in Wilmington, DE. Notably, he worked as manager of the Artificial Intelligence Project, where he planned strategy and competency in AI, which included work to design and implement infrastructure for machine learning, and knowledge based decision support. Further, he initiated and consulted to develop pertinent rule-based systems to be implemented with the artificial intelligence.
Dr. Kleier rose to the level of research fellow for computational chemistry with the firm. In this role, he used computational approaches to solve a variety of problems in chemical discovery. Because of his expertise in this area, he was able to provide guidance to managers of synthesis projects while also championing promising technologies for property estimation and structure-based designs that supported R&D efforts. Other notable roles held during Dr. Kleier's professional tenure include visiting scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Molecular Simulations Inc., Group Leader for Computational Chemistry at DuPont, senior research chemist for Shell Development and Agricultural Chemical Company, and assistant professor at Williams College and Virginia State College.
Dr. Kleier feels that he has been successful because of his academic background and his early experiences in his field. Before establishing himself professionally, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, summa cum laude, from Bellarmine College and a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame. Upon graduation, he secured a position as a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard University, where Dr. Kleier studied bonding in electron deficient molecules and enzyme mechanisms.
During this time, Dr. Kleier was awarded fellowships by the NSF and the American Cancer Society, which allowed him to publish numerous works, some of which referenced in William Lipscomb's Nobel laureate lecture of 1977. As he looks toward the future, Dr. Kleier has no intention of slowing down in his professional pursuits. He intends to continue teaching at Drexel University while taking on new research opportunities as they arise.
