Before obtaining this position, he worked for the National Institute of Standards and Technology as a guest researcher, and since then, he has lent his expertise to the College of Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona.
A graduate of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Dr. Kim holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, he has worked in editorial roles for the International Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing, and the Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology.
Throughout his career thus far, Dr. Kim has obtained a number of patents in the field for a one dimensional size measuring apparatus and machine tool and its method, as well as a measurement method of curved surfaces using 2nd differential of a part area and system thereof. An expert in his field, he has been awarded on numerous occasions for his professional accomplishments. In 2003, he earned the 9th Samsung Humantech Thesis Bronze Prize, and more recently, he was named Best Teacher at Kyungnam University for three consecutive years. In the near future, Dr. Kim intends to expand upon his research and obtain additional patents.
