She is also the author and illustrator of the children's book "My Day With Grandma," and illustrator of "The Adventures of Stache," released by E and E Books in 2015.
MINOT, ND, November 03, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elizabeth A. Woods has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
As a devoted mother and wife, a woman in academia, and now a prolific artist, Ms. Woods feels she has been living three lives, and now blends her many years of family, history, and learning into her lifelong work as an artist. She is most proud of earning a BA in Painting, cum laude, and a BFA, cum laude, both from Minot State University and more than a decade apart. She is now the artist behind approximately 500 oil paintings and 50 watercolors, and has been shown in numerous local and state arts exhibitions. She is also the author and illustrator of the children's book "My Day With Grandma," and illustrator of "The Adventures of Stache," released by E and E Books in 2015.
Born in New Haven, CT, to George Basil and Emily Gladys Whitmore in 1928, Ms. Woods has been living in Minot since 1991, following a lifetime of crossing the country. She was born with a love of art, and pursued it all her life. After graduating from the Hand High School in Madison, CT, she married Elmer E. Woods, a veteran of World War II, who is now unfortunately deceased. Her family has been in the military for generations, and her three brothers served in the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Marines, and the U.S. Navy in World War II. Ms. Woods feels there should be a better appreciation for the wives and mothers of the armed forces. Her firstborn, Christopher, was a Vietnam War veteran, who sadly passed away in 2003. In 2010, Ms. Woods also lost Barbara, her second child. They are survived by April, Ms. Wood's third, and a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ms. Woods dove back into art in the '90s at Minot State, and in 1994, her senior exhibit at Hartnett Hall with Minot State consisted of 60 pieces of art, a prolific amount for any artist. She has taken computer graphics courses and workshops while working toward a BFA, and her thesis in 2007 was called "The Story of Boxes," which was shown in the Taube Museum in Minot. Ms. Woods is very proud of designing a kite in her 3D class, which earned an A+ and tricked a gaggle of geese into trying to guide it home. She began to accrue official accolades as early as 1995, when she was selected as a finalist with the Bush Artist Fellowship Awards, and as a student, she was included on the Dean's List of Minot State University three years in a row, after qualifying for a Twyman Scholarship from 1991 to 1994.
Despite health concerns, Ms. Woods has continued to learn and to create art. She has devoted time toward building genealogy databases for herself and her friends, and created a Family Book for her grandchildren to pass on their heritage. Ms. Woods is currently showing with Artspace Suite 1 Gallery, Art Main, and at her studio, all in Minot. In the coming years, she intends on continuing to learn, to paint, and to show her work, including experiments in greeting cards, glasses, woodwork, and clay sculpture.
