Mr. Davidson is a former practicing attorney and, since 2003, a full-time arbitrator and mediator with JAMS in New York City. JAMS is the largest private alternative dispute resolution provider in the world. He holds the title of Executive Director of JAMS Arbitration Practice. Mr. Davidson has sat on more than 150 domestic and international arbitrations as sole arbitrator and as a member of tripartite panels in both institutional and ad hoc settings. He has arbitrated cases involving complex commercial and financial business issues including contract actions, disputes under APA and SPA agreements, pharmaceutical licensing disputes, construction, insurance and reinsurance claims, oil and gas disputes, securities, tax, real estate, intellectual property, employment disputes, and sports matters.
In 1972, Mr. Davidson was employed as an associate with Baker & McKenzie, an international law firm in New York City, NY. Making partner in 1979, he remained with the firm until 2003. While serving as a litigation partner, he acted as counsel for clients in numerous arbitrations involving a variety of disputes, including serving as lead counsel in domestic and international arbitrations. Eleven of these cases were before the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal, as well as cases before the U.N. Compensation Commission, domestic panels, the International Chamber of Commerce, the ICDR (the international arm of the American Arbitration Association), the Netherlands Arbitration Institute, and ad hoc panels. Furthermore, Mr. Davidson has mediated numerous commercial disputes throughout his career.
Mr. Davidson is listed as an arbitrator and mediator with many international arbitral institutions. In addition to being listed on the JAMS panel, he is also listed on the national and cross-border panels of the Center for Public Resources, the panel of arbitrators for the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, the arbitrator panels of the Netherlands Arbitration Institute, and various panels in China including CIETAC, Shanghai, and the Beijing Arbitration Commission He also frequently sits as an arbitrator in arbitrations administered by the ICDR, the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris and the London Court of International Arbitration.
A longtime member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, he has served on the International Commercial Disputes Committee since 2011, Mr. Davidson also twice served as Chairman of the Committee on Arbitration. Among other honors, he was designated a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a Fellow of the College of Commercial Arbitrators and has served on various boards including the Board of the College of Commercial Arbitrators, and the American Foreign Law Association.
In 1967 Mr. Davidson earned a BS in Economics undergraduate degree, cum laude, from the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce of the University of Pennsylvania before spending two years as a volunteer in the U.S. Peace Corps in the Philippines. He then completed his JD degree at Columbia University in 1972. A member of the New York Bar since 1972, he is also a member of the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, the Second, Third, D.C., and Federal Circuits of the U.S. Courts of Appeal, the U.S. Tax Court and the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States.
He has since been the recipient of numerous accolades. He has been named a New York Super Lawyer every year since 2006, and has been named since 2010 by Chambers USA as one of the leading international arbitrators in the United States. He was also named a Top Rated Lawyer in Alternative Dispute Resolution by the New York Law Journal in 2011, and has been listed in Best Lawyers in America since 2016 which, in 2018, named him New York's Arbitrator of the Year. Mr. Davidson has also been included in every edition of Who's Who in America since 1989 and numerous editions of Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the East.
