Since the inception of his career, Dr. Strome has been continually recognized for his contributions to the medical community. He is perhaps best known for performing the first total human laryngeal transplantation and first robotic laser surgery for laryngeal malignancy. In addition, he is credited with developing new endoscopic approaches for laryngeal cancer, as well as a new surgical procedure for aspiration. Dr. Strome was initially inspired to pursue a career in medicine at a young age. Completing a three year undergraduate program, medical school and residency in otolaryngology at the University of Michigan, he also obtained a Master of Science degree.
Recognized among America's Top Physicians, Dr. Strome has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the World. He has authored more than 200 scientific publications. Among multiple awards and honors, Dr. Strome is the recipient of the medal of the city of Paris, has been noted in the centennial edition by the Guinness Book of World Records, and was recognized at the centennial of the Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery as one of a small group of otolaryngologists who had contributed most to the specialty in the last 250 years. Outside of academics, he is the recipient of the 20th Anniversary Classic Telly Award, and in 1995 had his design submission accepted by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
A respected voice in the medical community nationally and internationally, Dr. Strome has served as a co-chair of the scientific advisory board of Medrobotics for eight years and is on the scientific advisory boards of Arrinex and Critical Outcome Technologies. Internationally, he is an executive director of Newton, an advertising and design firm headquartered in New Delhi, India. Dr. Strome has been a visiting professor and invited lecturer worldwide, giving multiple named lectures at prestigious organizations and medical schools. He has been the president of the American Larygological Society, the Society of University Otolaryngologists, the University of Michigan Medical School Alumni Association, and vice president of the Triological Society. Dr. Strome served as the former Professor and Chairman of the Cleveland clinic Head and Neck Institute and Head of Otolaryngology at the Harvard affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital.
