Dr. Jon began his career as a student at Seoul National University from 1995 to 2000. He obtained a Bachelor of Law in 2000 and was the class valedictorian, earning the President's Award for Academic Excellence. He continued his studies at his alma mater, receiving a Master of Law in 2007. In 2006, he began studying abroad at multiple schools in several countries.
Dr. Jon later obtained a Master of Law in Chinese Law in 2011 from Peking University in Beijing. He studied as a research student at the University of Tokyo in 2008. In January 2014, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Law from the University of Oxford, Faculty of Law with the thesis "Establishing an International Registration System for the Assignment and Security Interest of Receivables."
Dr. Jon returned to the Republic of Korea to study at the Korean University Law School, where he earned a JD and won a Dean's Award for Academic Excellence, as well as the Tsinghua University School of Law in Beijing, obtaining a Juris Master. He also served in the Republic of Korea Air Force from October 2002 to January 2006 as lieutenant, and he was promoted to a reserved captain in 2015.
In 2014 and 2015, Dr. Jon worked as a member of the public institution management evaluation committee under the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and he became a partner of Jeong Yul LLC, a boutique law firm with 60 lawyers and a specialty in litigation and arbitration in 2016. His primary areas of practice include international trade and international arbitration. Dr. Jon has experiences of advising on M&A, employment and labor-related matters, financial regulations, contract review and other general matters for a wide variety of corporate clients who have multinational business around the world.
In 2015, he was enlisted as arbitrator for the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board, and appointed as the secretary of the international committee of the Korean Bar Association. Since 2017, he was enlisted as arbitrator and mediator for the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration, and appointed as the director of public relations and communications for the Seoul Bar Association.
Dr. Jon has contributed to his field through his publications and role as an educator. As an author, he has published 13 articles in Korean professional journals and eight articles in international journals. In 2014, Dr. Jon taught was a lecturer for undergraduate law students at Myongji University, and he teaches several courses at Underwood International College, Yonsei University since 2016.
Dr. Jon's book, Cross-border Transfer and Collateralisation of Receivables will be published by Hart Publishing in January 2018.

Dr. Jon translated Philip Wood's Law and Practice of International Finance into Korean language, and the Korean translation version will be published by Pakyoungsa in February 2018.
