GYEONGGI, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, November 15, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dongkwang Shin has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Shin is an accomplished professor of English language education at Gwangju National University of Education, known for first adopting the notion of "collocation family" in applied linguistics. He developed the ColloGram, a collocation family analysis program, and worked on the basic word list for the 2015 National Curriculum of English for the Republic of Korea. Dr. Shin's interest in English began while attending a foreign language high school, and it was natural for him to delve into the study of linguistics. He attributes his success to his PhD supervisor, Professor Paul Nation at the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand.
Dr. Shin served his requisite term of duty with the Korean Army from 1996 to 1998, and attended Victoria University of Wellington to earn a PhD in Applied Linguistics in 2007. He is a recognized board member of Asia Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and the Korea Association of Teachers of English. Immediately before his current position, he worked as a research fellow with the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation for seven years.
Dr. Shin is certified as an English school teacher, though he intends to continue research and university professorship in the coming years. He was involved in many national curriculum projects in his native Republic of Korea, and applied his expertise in corpus (language big-data) skills. Dr. Shin was especially glad to have participated in development of a cloud-system English test, though that particular project has already been shut down. His work has been recognized with a 2008 Education Achievement Award from the Minister of Education of the Republic of Korea, as well as a 2012 Best Research Article of Applied Linguistics of the Association of Korea.
Dr. Shin's work can be found as far abroad as Koln, Germany, where his collocation inventory is published in book form. In addition to his parents, Dr. Shin has a brother and a sister. He is happily married and has two children, Jihu Shin and Eunhu Shin.
