He has been recognized for his focus on medical malpractice cases, particularly those pertaining to brain-damaged infants. One of his most prominent cases resulted in a $24 million jury verdict for a child who suffered severe and permanent brain damage due to a health care provider's mismanagement of an obstruction in the upper airway. As a legal professional, Dr. Gershon is ultimately driven to help children and families obtain the help they need. He has been admitted to practice in a wide range of states, including New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Oregon, Washington and Georgia.
A widely regarded voice in the legal community, Dr. Gershon has contributed numerous articles to professional journals, including, "Timing a Birth Injury," "Medical Expert Witnesses...Beware," and "Maryland Courts Still Wrestling with Medical Malpractice Issues Raised in 1890." He provides lectures locally and nationally on the topic of obstetrical negligence. Dr. Gershon maintains involvement with the American Association for Justice and American Bar Association.
Prior to pursuing a career in law, Dr. Gershon intended to become a medical doctor. He attended the University of Maryland at Baltimore, where he received an MD in 1986. Although he enjoyed the prospect of working in medicine, Dr. Gershon was ultimately driven to pursue a line of work that would allow him to help individuals in a different way. He was referred to a lawyer who introduced him to the field of medical malpractice. From there, Dr. Gershon went on to complete a JD through the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1990. During his education, he worked as a forensic consultant with Mason, Ketterman & Morgan. Since then, he has served the legal community in a wide range of capacities.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Gershon has been continually recognized for his dedication to the legal community. He has been named a Chancellor's Scholar, as well as a fellow of the College of Legal Medicine. An AV Preeminent Attorney, He was listed among the Top Attorneys in Maryland in the 2010 and 2011 editions of Super Lawyer Magazine. He previously received an honorary degree in mathematics from the University of Maryland at College Park.
