Ken Marlin served ten years on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps before applying principles that he learned as a Marine to the business world - principles such as honor, courage, discipline, perseverance, teamwork and commitment to a cause greater than oneself. He has since become a successful technology company CEO, investment banker, strategist and author. Since 2001, he has served as managing partner of his firm, Marlin and Associates, where he advises CEOs, Boards and Owners of companies around the globe. Born in New York, to Elmer David Marlin and Edith Barbara Marlin in 1955 and raised in Arizona, Mr. Marlin enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps in 1970, was promoted to sergeant and later sent to Officer Candidate School. He was promoted to Captain, served two tours in the Far East and held a variety of assignments from platoon leader, company commander, battalion staff officer, to a member of the 1st Marine Division Commanding General's staff - until he left active duty in 1981. While serving on active duty, Mr. Marlin earned a BA from the University of California, Irvine, in 1977 and an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1979.
In 1981, Mr. Marlin joined The Dun and Bradstreet Corporation in New York as a manager of corporate strategy and acquisitions, while continuing his studies at New York University, where he acquired an advanced professional certificate in Corporate Strategy in 1984. (At that time, Dun & Bradstreet was a conglomerate which owned 23 major brands including Moody's Investors Service, Interactive Data Corporation, Datastream International, Reuben H. Donnelley, IMS Health, ACNielsen, Nielsen Media Research, D&B Software, D&B Plan Services, D&B Credit Services and a majority stake in Gartner Group).
Mr. Marlin served with the company until 1992, eventually gaining the title of senior vice president before joining Telekurs North America. as its president, a position he held until 1995. That year, Mr. Marlin joined with others to acquire assets from Telekurs to form Telesphere Corporation, a financial technology company based in New York, London and Tokyo which he led as CEO. In 1997, Mr. Marlin and his partners sold Telesphere to Bridge Information Systems, where he became executive vice president. In 1999, Mr. Marlin left Bridge to become the managing director of Veronis Suhler & Associates, a media merchant bank based in New York and London. In 2002, he launched his international investment bank, Marlin and Associates, which he leads today.
Besides the battlefield and the boardroom, Mr. Marlin is also a humanitarian benefactor. He is a Trustee of the Madison Square Boys and Girls Club; a member of the Business Administration Board of Advisors of the University of the People; an active supporter of the Wall Street Warriors Foundation, The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation; the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School; and Outward Bound Peacekeeping. He formerly served as member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of the Phoenix House Foundation; and as vice chairman and director of the board of the New York chapter of the American Red Cross. Mr. Marlin and his wife, Jacqueline Barnathan, are the proud parents of Victoria Rae Marlin.
