A retired health facility administrator and professor emeritus of Fullerton College since 2007, Lorain Brault spent more than three decades honing her skills in the field. A registered nurse in the state of California and registered nurse practitioner, she was a director of nursing at Canyon General Hospital in Anaheim in the early 1970s. As she continued to climb the corporate ladder, she earned opportunities to work for several wonderful institutions and companies, including California State University as the director of the critical care clinical specialist master's degree program, California Hospital Home Care Corporation of America as vice president and president/CEO of Hospital Home Health Care Agency of California and related companies and Fullerton College in 1999 as director of student health service. Ms. Brault is elected to serve as president of the Long Beach City College Foundation Board of Governors 2018-2020.
A well-known conference speaker, writer, and director of state and local grants, Ms. Brault served in various roles surrounding her expertise. She was an advisor for the Nursing Institute, a consultant for AMI, Inc. in Saudi Arabia, an invited lecturer for the China Nurses Association, guest lecturer for the department of public health at the University of California Los Angeles, part-time associate clinical professor at the University of Southern California, and Adjunct Professor California State University System from 1990-2007. Her research has also resulted in the publication of articles in various professional journals and in chapters in books.
Furthermore, Ms. Brault served on various committees. She was secretary and vice president for the Women in Health Administration, task force chairman, board of directors, and chairman of the board for the City of Long Beach Public Health Department, president of the California Association of Health Services at Home, and section president and state president for the Healthcare Services Administration of California Community Colleges. She was also a member of the National Association of Home Care, the Organization of Nursing Executives, the American College of Healthcare Care Executives, and the American Organization of Nurse Executives. She remains active as a member of Health Service Administration of California Community Colleges, Sigma Theta Tau International nursing society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Soroptimist International.
After the completion of an Associate's degree at Long Beach City College, Ms. Brault pursued a Bachelor's degree, graduating in 1973 from California State University of Long Beach, followed by a Master's degree at the same university in 1977. Highlighted in many editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who in the World, she has also been the recipient of several other accolades, including a Professional Leadership Award and Making Democracy Work Award by the League of Women Voters in 2008, and receiving several public, county, private, and state grants between 1998 and 2013 to support her work. Ms. Brault was also named to the Long Beach City College Hall of Fame in 2012, awarded as a Distinguished Alumni from California State University in 2013 and the Woman of Distinction in Health from Soroptimist International in 2014. Married since 1971 to Donald R. Brault, she has one son.
