With nearly 15 years of research experience, Dr. Banerjee has served as an assistant professor at the University of Washington since 2015. Prior to that, he was a research scientist with the General Electric Global Research Division's Complex Systems Engineering Laboratory from 2012 to 2015. He was with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 2009 to 2012, first as a postdoctoral associate, then as a research scientist in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
Dr. Banerjee began his career with a Bachelor of Technology in Manufacturing Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2004. He then traveled to the United States to earn an MS in 2006 and a PhD in 2009 from the University of Maryland, both in Mechanical Engineering. He also worked as a graduate research assistant at the school from 2004 to 2009. He is affiliated with the IEEE and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, he has contributed nearly 50 professional articles, and he has worked as an associate editor for the International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering.
Dr. Banerjee has been recognized many times for his work in the field. He received the Above and Beyond Award from the Global Research Division of General Electric in 2009, the Most Cited Paper Award from Computer-Aided Design Journal in 2012, and the Best Session Presentation Award at the American Control Conference in 2011. In 2009 he was the recipient of both the George Harhalakis Outstanding Graduate Student Award from the Institute for Systems Research and the Best Dissertation Award from the Department of Mechanical Engineering while with the University of Maryland. Looking toward the future, he intends to expand upon his research and experience the upward trajectory of his career.
