KINGSBURG, CA, December 07, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Maxine L. Olson with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Olson celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Olson taught drawing and painting courses at a number of institutions over a 25-year period. First teaching at Fresno State University, Fresno City College, College of Sequoias, Corcoran State Prison, and the Instituto Allende in San Mieguel de Allende in Mexico, by 1986, she had received a visiting artist position with the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. During this time, she earned the opportunity to spend two semesters abroad with the university's studies abroad program in Cortona, Italy. During this time, Ms. Olson became acquainted with computer imaging.
Returning to her home state of California in 1990, Ms. Olson began focusing on digital imaging because she knew it was the way of the future. She began studying with a digital artist at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, MA, and at Bennington College in Vermont. She subsequently taught at California State University until 1996, spent time as a teacher for The World's Women On-Line Conference as part of the United Nations in Beijing, China, taught for the California Department and Rehabilitation, participated at the 6th Annual Micropublication Graphics in San Francisco, CA, and more recently, as an American art educator for International Artist Publishing Inc., in 2014.
Ms. Olson's portfolio is comprised of various oil paintings and digital media. Her work is inspired by "human nature in all its stages. It has been the basis for creating my artwork. People's attitudes, biases, prejudices and the way they look, act and feel, both culturally, spiritually, and sexually have provided the content for my paintings, drawings and digital prints, but also in the process, enabled me to reconcile the contradictory and often opposing forces that have shaped my life." Her work is in the permanent collections of the Fresno Arts Museum, Federal Land Bank, California Department of Fish & Game, Friends of the Fresno County Library, and Kingsburg Historical Park, to name but a few.
Her more recent work has included large format inkjet prints using photographs, text, and objects that are scanned into a computer through a flatbed or slide scanner or downloaded from a digital camera. The images are printed on canvas, paper, and vinyl. Over the course of her extensive career in the art world, she has exhibited her work in numerous locations across the United States and abroad at places including the San Juan Bautista Gallery, the Palazzo Casali in Venice, Italy, the Forum Gallery in New York City, the Chait Galleries in Iowa City, and the University of Calgary. She has received numerous awards for her work, including an Agriculture 200 Award in 2015, granted by the Friends Arts Council, an IDN Design Award in 1997-1998, and a Gold Award in 1992, from the Art of California Magazine. She was also the recipient of a Paul Harris Fellowship from Rotary International in 2010.
Born in a small town in the San Joaquin Valley in California, Ms. Olson first received a Bachelor's degree summa cum laude at Fresno State University in 1973, before spending two summers studying at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. She then returned to California State University to complete her Master's degree with distinction in 1975. Affiliated as a member of the College Art Association, the Rotary International's Rotary Centennial Project, the International Museum of Women, the Friends of the Library of Mural Design, and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Ms. Olson is the mother of two children and grandmother of three children. She still lives in Fresno County, CA, in the same town where she was born and raised. For more information, visit www.maxineolson.com.
