As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Glass is a health foundation executive, the pioneer advocate for Temporomandibular Joints (TMJ) Disorders, and the co-founder of the Jaw Joints & Allied Musculo-Skeletal Disorders Foundation, Inc. in Boston with her husband, Milton L. Glass. She currently serves as the president of the foundation, and manages the educational, nonprofit, 501(c) (3) corporation utilizing many years of experience as an executive secretary to illustrious figures in disciplines vital to the growth of the U.S. Together with her husband, Ms. Glass has organized pro bono support groups, government funding, and multidisciplinary research for the largely ignored condition of TMJ, as well as a number of other worthy causes.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Samuel and Helen Peritz, Ms. Glass first served with the U.S. Army in the First Army Headquarters on Governor's Island, New York, and as an executive secretary to Dr. Joseph A. Baer, a general with the Army working with the National Foundation of Infantile Paralysis. She became director of the Goldberg Center at Northeastern in 1993 and director of the Center for Health in Society in 1999. Mr. Glass and Mrs. Glass' pro-bono missions are multifaceted, but their overarching passion has been to prevent needless pain and suffering from lack of proper communication and public education.
Ms. Glass attended the University of Massachusetts, Tufts University and Northeastern University. Ms. Glass has been a pro bono board member of the Boston Public Library, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Connoisseur Network and the Cotuit Library. Together with her husband, she has sat on the board of the International Catacomb Society, the Boston Lyric Opera, the Boch Center for the Performing Arts, the Mashpee Indian Museum, the Mashpee Library Committee, and the Mashpee Music Festival, where they were founding board members.
Ms. Glass has been honored with a number of awards, notably by B'nai Brith International, the Global Voice of the Jewish Community, with a dinner honoring the couple's lifetime commitment to community service. The Forsyth Institute offers the Milton and Renee Glass Family Post-Doctorate Fellowship for TMJ & Allied Muscular and Skeletal Research. A proclamation to declare "Jaw Joints-TMJ Awareness Month" in perpetuity was introduced to both the U.S. Congress and the Massachusetts state legislature in 1997 and 1996, respectively, and the couple has worked with Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Governor Bill Weld, and Congressman Barney Frank, to promote awareness and legislation on the issue.
