Jerry Hoover Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    CHESTERFIELD, MO, December 08, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jerry Hoover with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Hoover celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Professor emeritus Mr. Hoover officially retired in 2016, after spending 38 years in academia and 20 years previously in the public school systems. Serving as the director of bands at Missouri State University from 1985 to 2016, where he also supervised a student offering of 18 bands and was the director of the jazz band, symphonic band, varsity band, several ensembles, and the pride marching band that consisted of 320 members, he first worked for the Cabool, Lebanon, and Jefferson City school districts where he implemented award-winning concerts, marching, and jazz bands, as well as for New Mexico State University, where he was hired as an assistant director of bands, and promoted to director of bands.

Some of Mr. Hoover's most recent concerts at Missouri State University included directing the 'Jazz Concert' in 2016, the 'Touching People's Hearts' in 2016, and the 'Christmas Parade Through Magic Kingdom,' 'Sounds of Christmas Concert,' 'Band Banquet,' 'A Musical Salute to Our Veterans,' and 'Silver Dollar City Parade' in 2015. In addition to his work at the university, Mr. Hoover directed the Scotland Music Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, from 2002 to 2004, the Stars Over Maastricht Band Festival in the Netherlands from 2000 to 2010, and the London and Paris New Year's Day Parades from 1993 to 2012. Conducting and directing many other performances over the years, he was recognized for being a featured performer in concerts with Bob Hope, Tom Jones, Regis and Kathy Lee, and was a selected performer for a number of venues such as the Castellon de la Plana Festiva in Spain in 2000, the Montreaux Jazz Festival in 1988, and a President of the U.S. Ronald Reagan performance in 1986.

Locally, Mr. Hoover was recognized for volunteering his musical expertise at his church and working with several bands by participating in clinics. Affiliated with the Missouri chapter of the Phi Beta Mu where he is currently president emeritus, he also chaired the International Adjudication Panel, the London Music Festival, The London New Year's Day Parade, and the Edinburg Easter Music Festival, and was a longtime member of the Missouri Music Educators Association.

In 2006, Mr. Hoover's Missouri State University Pride Marching Band was the only American band to ever perform at St. Paul's Cathedral in London. Recognized by being named to the Hall of Fame by the Missouri Music Educators Association in 2003 and the Hall of Fame by the Missouri Bandmasters Association in 2013, he also received a Lebanon Community Achievement Award and was inducted into Lebanon's Wall of Fame. While serving at New Mexico State University, he was recognized by New Mexico Governor Toney Anaya, declaring a statewide 'Jerry Hoover Day' for his work. Furthermore, the Lions Club International awarded him with a Melvin Jones Fellow, the organization's highest international award.

Mr. Hoover earned a Bachelor in Music Education at Drury College in 1958, a Master of Music Education at the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1967, and performed graduate coursework at Rutgers University. He is married to Betty Hoover with whom he has three children.
