Bettie P. Mitchell Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Mitchell has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of education and religion

BEAVERTON, OR, December 12, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Bettie P. Mitchell with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Mitchell celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A certified counselor in the state of Oregon, Ms. Mitchell first earned a BS in Education from Lewis & Clark College in 1954, completed postgraduate work at Portland State University from 1962 to 1972, and later received a Master of Religion from Warner Pacific College, summa cum laude, in 1979. For decades, Ms. Mitchell has made an impact in both the state of Oregon and worldwide. Combining her love of teaching with religious services, she first became an elementary school teacher in 1955 for the Quincy School District in the town of Clatskanie, OR. One year later, she began working as a substitute teacher for another 18 years in both Beaverton and Washington County Schools, during which time she also began teaching the Bible at Portland Community College for almost 20 years.

Becoming more involved in religious studies, Ms. Mitchell was acquainted with counseling and healing ministry before she received a call to the ministry on the walls of ancient Nineveh, in Iraq. She founded Good Samaritan Ministries (GSM) in 1979, a 501c (3) non-profit organization. She was the organization's international executive director, and her call to service was to "teach nothing but the Kingdom of God." Her call was to children around the world, and since Ms. Mitchell retired in 2009, the organization and her legacy continue to thrive.

The mission of GSM is to transform lives to further the Kingdom of God, where all walks of life can come to find love and acceptance. Over the years, GSM has developed into an organization that now has hundreds of trained counselors across the globe, ready and willing to serve. Employed with a small staff and led by director Teresa Stroup, a licensed clinical social worker who previously spent 20 years as a counselor before taking on her new role in 2015, Ms. Stroup oversees more than 200 centers across 30 countries. Local services at the Beaverton headquarters include counseling for adults, children and teens for addictions and trauma recovery; marriage, couples, and family counseling; and group therapy and training courses. With active offices in the Northwest and globally, the organization provides aid services, ministries to widows and orphans, microcredit projects for sustainability in third-world countries, counseling and group therapy, addiction groups, and recovery centers. Notably, more than 95 percent of funding comes from private, individual donations.

A former speaker and presenter in her field, Ms. Mitchell was a tour leader in the Middle East and has served as a development counselor for various education programs in countries including Nigeria, Kenya, and Pakistan. She has served her local community by serving on the board of directors for the Beaverton Fish, as a member of the Israel Task Force in Portland, OR, and as an assistant director for the Washington County Civil Defense. She is the author of "From the Bush to the Roots: The Story of Good Samaritan Ministries in Africa" in 2014, "Something Worth Saving" in 2011, "To Know Jesus" in 2009, "The Heroes of Vietnam and the Children They Touched" in 2002, and "Who is My Neighbor" in 1988.

Ms. Mitchell is a longtime member of the American Christian Counseling Association, the Christian Association for Psychological Studies, and the Oregon Counseling Association. She was the recipient of a Richard Hughes Memorial Award in 1984, granted by The National Conference for Christians and Jews and Shalom Oregon. Ms. Mitchell has been cited in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women numerous times for her tireless efforts. She was married for 62 years to Gerald Mitchell, with whom she has four children. For more information, visit www.goodsamaritanministries.org.
