Drawing upon more than 40 years of experience, Ms. Livesay serves as a director of children's music and an organist with the First United Methodist Church. She is also recognized as the director of the Jackson Chorale Children's Choir and director of Orff Music with the First Presbyterian Church. A widely regarded musician, Ms. Livesay has performed as an organ soloist with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. She is an active member of the Jackson Symphony Guild and Western High School Academic Boosters. In addition, Ms. Livesay recently accepted a position as a board president with the Tuesday Musical Association in 2017.
Following a lifelong passion for music, Ms. Livesay attended the Westminster Choir College, where she completed a Bachelor of Music in 1973. She subsequently received a Master of Music from the University of Michigan in 1977, before joining the Trinity United Methodist Church as an organist and minister of music. During this time, Ms. Livesay also served as an adjunct instructor of music with Spring Arbor University, where she later received a Master of Arts in Education in 2001. Since the inception of her career, Ms. Livesay has been certified at level one, level two, and level three of Orff Schulwerk, a developmental approach used in music education that combines music, movement, drama, and speech into lessons that are similar to a child's world of play.
An adjunct instructor of music with Spring Arbor University and Albion College, Ms. Livesay takes great pride in sharing her skill and knowledge as a musician. She is recognized as a former member of the Magnet Committee with the Jackson Public Schools, where she served as a teacher of elementary music from 1998 to 2012. Prior to accepting this role, Ms. Livesay worked as a teacher of elementary music with the Vandercook Lake Public Schools for nearly 10 years. In recognition of her commitment to music education, Ms. Livesay was named an Outstanding Elementary Educator by the Jackson Public Schools in 2001. She has also been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women, and Who's Who in the World.
