Highly educated, Rev. Dr. Weinkauf shared her enthusiasm with students and parishioners alike as both a teacher and a clergywoman for decades. Fully retired since 2013, she previously spent 30 years in academia before becoming a member of the clergy.
Rev. Dr. Weinkauf first graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Wisconsin State University at Eau Claire in 1961, quickly finding a position at the University of Tennessee (UT) as a graduate assistant and instructor of English. During the five years she remained in that role, she earned her Master's degree and PhD at UT. Thereafter, she taught as an assistant professor of English at Adrian College in Michigan before finding a professorship in Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD, where she also headed the English department for 20 years. Spending another three years in the classroom, she taught as an instructor at Columbia College from 1989 to 1991. Entering the clergy shortly thereafter, Rev. Dr. Weinkauf served the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for several years. She was a pastor for the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, Siloa Lutheran Church, and Ontonagon's Faith Lutheran, and most recently served as director for the Lay School for Mission, Sayner Campus, from 2006 to 2013.
After leaving Dakota Wesleyan University, Rev. Dr. Weinkauf completed a Master of Divinity at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1993. She since became heavily involved in her community, volunteering with the Ontonagon County Habitat for Humanity, where she served on the board of directors from 1995 to 1997. She was also active with the Lutheran Campus Ministry for Wisconsin and Upper Michigan and the Lakeland Area Food Pantry, as well as the Pastime Club Adult Day Care Center.
Rev. Dr. Weinkauf is a former division president and vice president of her local branch of the American Association of University Women. She was also a longtime member of the National Council of Teachers of English, the South Dakota Council of Teachers of English, and the Science Fiction Research Association. She is the author of "Hard-Boiled Heretic" and "Sermons in Science Fiction" published in 1994, and "Murder Most Poetic" published in 1996. Her interest in poetry led to her participation with the South Dakota Poetry Society, where she served as president for several years in the early 1980s.
Highlighted in dozens of editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who Among American Women since 1995, Rev. Dr. Weinkauf was married to Alan D. Weinkauf for close to 40 years. She is the mother of two children, who live nearby in Wausau and Rhinelander, in Wisconsin.
