Becoming a registered nurse through St. Joseph's Hospital, Ms. Grimes divided her career, spending the first half working in the field and the second half dedicated to the school system. First hired by St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, Dignity Health, in Phoenix, AZ, in 1957, she later worked as an office nurse at Phoenix Family Medical Clinic, as a private duty nurse for Central Registry, and as a manager and office nurse for Phoenix Urological Clinic from 1965 to 1979. Transitioning into education, Ms. Grimes accepted a position with the Wilson School District #7 in Phoenix, AZ. A breath of fresh air, she loved the experience so much that she remained in education for another 20 years before attaining retirement. She also worked for Balsz School District #31, and subsequently became a health service coordinator for the Catholic Coalition for Urban Schools, Diocese of Phoenix. In 1996, she accepted a position as a school nurse for the South West School as part of the Roosevelt School District.
During her career, Ms. Grimes was very active in her community. She served as secretary-treasurer for the Central Phoenix Council for Child Abuse Prevention, was a campaign worker for the Republican Gubernatorial Election in Phoenix, and was a member of the Cantemus Classical Chorus. She also loved to volunteer. Active with the local senior center, Ms. Grimes was also a fundraiser, secretary, and served on the board of directors for the Classical Chorus Bach and Madrigal Society. She was a patron with the Spreckels Organ Society, a non-profit in San Diego, CA, that held free concerts throughout the summer months and promoted music education.
Ms. Grimes was very active with the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) where she served as vice president, chapter president, and president for several years. The organization brings together business women of diverse occupations and provides opportunities for them professionally. In 1995, ABWA named her Woman of the Year. She was also affiliated with National Association of School Nurses and the School Nurses Organization of Arizona. Born in Kansas City, KS, Ms. Grimes has been highlighted in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women several times.
