RANCHO SANTA FE, CA, December 15, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Douglas Dale Busch, JD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With nearly 60 years of experience in a rewarding career, Mr. Busch received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Princeton University. After a few years of classified work in the U.S. nuclear program, he joined General Atomics (GA, then General Atomic) and performed research related to the development of the High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR) from 1960 to 1973. He helped start up the only two HTGRs ever built.
Having received a JD from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1972, Mr. Busch subsequently transitioned into legal services as an attorney for GA from 1973 to 1981. In this role, he helped negotiate nuclear reactor contracts with power companies and component contracts with suppliers. He also assisted GA research groups that were developing spinoff nuclear technology and forming new companies.
As sole in-house counsel and then General Counsel for The Salk Institute for Biological Studies from 1981 to 2000, Mr. Busch oversaw legal matters for the nonprofit research organization and managed its successful technology transfer office. Since 2000, he has been the owner and principal of Douglas Dale Busch, Attorney at Law, a private practice through which he is involved in licensing technology, particularly in the biotechnology field. He has been a consultant to several startup companies, most recently companies developing improved cancer diagnostics.
Mr. Busch has been affiliated with a number of professional and industry-related organizations, including the San Diego County Bar Association, where he was co-founder, vice chairman and chairman of a corporate law departments section in the late 1970s. In the 1980s, he was a founder and director and the first president of the San Diego chapter of the American Corporate Counsel Association, as it was then known. He was a member of the Licensing Executives Society, the San Diego Biotechnology Lawyers Group, the San Diego Coalition for Economic and Environmental Balance, and remains a member of the Association of University Technology Managers. As a scientist, he was a member of the American Nuclear Society, National Association of Corrosion Engineers, American Chemical Society, and the USAEC Reactor Decontamination Information Exchange Group.
Mr. Busch was admitted to the California State Bar in 1972, and is a Registered Professional Engineer (Nuclear) in the State of California. Outside of his work responsibilities, Mr. Busch enjoys attending the opera, traveling, and appreciating art and architecture and 19th and 20th century technology. He has served on the Board and as President of the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum Association, a museum and tourist railroad. He and his wife, Beverly, a former fashion model and interior designer, have two sons, John and Eric, each a vice president of a major corporation.
