BOSTON, MA, December 22, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Edward P. Walsh, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Walsh celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Edward Walsh is the Associate Chief for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital, where he is also the founder and head of the Cardiac Electrophysiology program. He is a Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, having first joined the Harvard medical faculty in 1985 as an Instructor. Instrumental in helping develop new technology that electrically maps the heart, providing an extremely detailed way to see where complex arrhythmias originate, as part of the Boston Children's Electrophysiology Service, Dr. Walsh's innovations have contributed to development of catheter-based procedures that allow treatment of arrhythmias with extreme precision. Notably, Dr. Walsh and his team have used the technology to address complex arrhythmias in more congenital heart patients than any other hospital in the world.
Dr. Walsh has focused his clinical research on catheter ablation for atrial and ventricular tachycardias in both pediatric and adult patients with complex congenital heart disease. The complex intracardiac anatomy in these patients requires a unique understanding of the underlying structural anomalies and the various surgical techniques used for repair, which Dr. Walsh has always found to be a very satisfying challenge. His clinical practice includes three days per week performing these procedures and providing care to hospitalized cardiac patients, one day seeing outpatients, and one day for research, teaching, and administrative duties.
Dr. Walsh is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology at St. Joseph's University in 1975, where he was a 1974 college scholar, and his MD at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine in 1979. From 1979 until 1985 he completed his postdoctoral training which included pediatric residency at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, a fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Boston Children's Hospital, and a fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. He returned to Boston Children's Hospital to establish the cardiac arrhythmia service in 1985, which has grown under his direction to become the largest clinical and academic program of its kind for patients with congenital cardiac disease.
Dr. Walsh is an elected fellow of the American College of Cardiology, as well as the Heart Rhythm Society. He has been a longtime member and past president of the Pediatric and Congenital Electrophysiology Society, and serves on numerous committees within these professional organizations. He was also the recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award, granted by the Heart Rhythm Society in 2008.
Dr. Walsh has authored or co-authored over 200 scientific manuscripts and book chapters in professional publications dating back to 1976. He is also chief editor and primary contributor to a standard textbook in his field, published in 2001.
Dr. Walsh has been married to Jane Ann Hopkins since 1986, and is the proud father of four children. He has been included in the second edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Edward P. Walsh, MD, has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
