Michael C. Giudici, MD, FACC, FACP, FHRS is Professor of Medicine and Director of Arrhythmia Services at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He graduated from Davenport Assumption High School, Carleton College, and the University of Iowa College of Medicine. After serving as a primary care physician in the US Air Force in Virginia and New Jersey, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiology Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and took additional training in Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology at University of Missouri Hospitals in Columbia before returning to Iowa in 1989. He established the Cardiac Electrophysiology program at St. Luke's/Genesis Medical Center and practiced there for 23 years before joining the faculty at UIHC in 2012.
Dr. Giudici's research interests have included new therapies for atrial fibrillation, new pacing techniques to improve cardiac performance, and new device implant techniques. He implanted the first transvenous bi-ventricular pacing defibrillator in the world in 1999. He has pioneered new implant techniques to give women pacemakers and defibrillators with no visible scar. Dr. Giudici has participated in over 100 clinical trials and has published and presented over 300 papers in medical journals and at national and international meetings. He has served as faculty at both the European and North American Heart Rhythm scientific sessions since 1994 and has served on numerous committees for the Heart Rhythm Society. Dr Giudici has been named to "Best Doctors in America" annually since 2006 and received the Lewis January Teaching Excellence Award for the UIHC Division of Cardiology in 2015. He also is a regular guest on Relevant Radio Network's "On Call" medical phone-in show answering questions on cardiology and rhythm issues from people around the country.
In addition to medicine, Dr. Giudici has had a long involvement in civic affairs and conservation work. He organized and directed the Greenway Habitat Project which raised over $1,000,000 and planted over 13,000 trees along streets and at schools and parks in Davenport. He has received awards from the Izaak Walton League, State of Iowa, and National Association of Conservation Directors for his work. He has been named Iowa Forestry Volunteer of the Year and was named national volunteer of the year by the Arbor Day Foundation. He served for many years as Vice-President of Rejuvenate Davenport, served as Board President of River Action, Board President of the Quad-City Air Service Task Force, Board President of the Scott County Beautification Foundation, and the Board of Trustees of Saint Ambrose University among many other civic boards and capital campaigns.
For his civic work, Dr. Giudici has been named Quad-City Times "Quad-Citian of the Year", named to the Quad-City Business Hall of Fame by Junior Achievement, received the "Key to the City" of Davenport, and was given the Community Service Award by the Iowa Medical Society in 2013 among many other awards.
