With more than 45 years of professional experience, Mr. Hatch has been the president of John D. Hatch, P.C., since 1992, also serving as president of Insurance Horizons, Inc., from 1992 to 2007, and he has served as senior counsel with the American Health and Life Insurance Company and its affiliated companies for more than 20 years. Prior to obtaining these roles, he was senior vice president with Resource Deployment, Inc., from 1988 to 1991, and vice president and general counsel with Associate Madison Cos., Inc., from 1987 to 1988. From 1985 to 1987, he was vice president of special operations with Commercial Life Insurance Co., having been general counsel and vice president of the Continental Corporation from 1983 to 1985. Earlier in his career, he worked with Aetna Life and Casualty as counsel from 1974 to 1983, and as an attorney from 1971 to 1974.
Mr. Hatch began his career at the College of Central Florida, obtaining an AA in 1962 before going on to complete a BS at Florida State University in 1964. He then studied law at Georgetown University, earning a JD in 1971. While pursuing his degrees, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He is admitted to practice in Florida, Connecticut, and Texas, as well as before the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, the United States Tax Court, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has also held a general securities license and a general principal license.
An expert in the financial services industry, he is a member of the Association of Life Insurance Counsel and the International Association of Insurance Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, where he previously served as a chairman of the TIPS employee benefits committee and chairman of the TIPS financial services committee. He has authored numerous works related to his field, including "Calculating Annuity Payments in a Retirement Based on Sex--Distinct Mortality Tables--Norris v. Arizona: Is Manhart Controlling?," which was published in the Tort and Insurance Law Journal in 1983. He is also the author of "Should Insurance Be Blind to Sex?" and an "Employee Benefits: Annual Survey."
In recognition of his contributions to the field of law, Mr. Hatch was honored as a Best Corporate Consultancy Practice in the United States in 2016.
