Mr. Ott is renowned in the Kodiak community for his legal expertise in criminal law, family law, estate planning, contract disputes, and business law. He currently serves as an attorney at Kamai, LLC. He began his career as a contract attorney for the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Litigation case in Alaska's Federal District Court in 1989, through the Ninth Circuit of Appeals, in the United States Supreme Court. He acted as a member of the plaintiff's class action committee from 1989 to 2008, and his service led to the $5 billion punitive damage jury award in 1994. For the following years, he was heavily involved in setting up the mechanisms by which recoveries would be distributed to the 28,000 claimants. He held multiple contract attorney positions throughout his legal career and also provided his expertise as a consultant at OMNITECH Engineering from 1986 to 2005.
Mr. Ott graduated with honors from Seattle University School of Law in 1989, and received an honorary doctorate from the University Graz in Austria in 1986. He was admitted to practice in Alaska, the state of Washington, the United States District Court (West District), and the United States Court of Alaska. He is also a member of the American Bar Association. Outside of the firm, Mr. Ott acts as the legal advisor for the Kodiak Teen Court, the local youth court program, and teaches the students criminal law, procedure, and constitutional law. He is also a director and performer at the Kodiak's theatre program and had served as a trustee of the Kodiak Arts Council. He has acted in various musicals and theater productions, and he was a musician and singer in the community orchestra and choir throughout the 1990s. He currently sings in an all men's choir, Alpha Singers.
Mr. Ott is the son of Eduard Karl and Elfriede Marie (Petryc) Ott. His interest in law developed after his father's family business faced legal problems. He wanted to pursue a career that would help him support people in need of legal support, especially those who could not afford the services. In his spare time, he enjoys skiing, playing soccer, bike riding, running, and acting.
