With more than 15 years of medical experience, Dr. Osborne has served as a radiologist and neuroradiologist with Virtual Radiologic (vRad) since 2009, and been the director of medical informatics and director of research since 2013. Additionally, he is the director of clinical research and a research advisory committee team member with MEDNAX, vRad's parent company. His areas of expertise include leading the design, development and implementation of data-informed, high-impact solutions aimed at improving the quality of patient care while reducing costs. Before joining vRad, he also served as an attending staff neuroradiologist at Harvard Medical School's, Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Osborne began his career at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he obtained a BA, with highest honors, in 1996, going on to earn an MD at Dartmouth Medical School in 2001. While in medical school, he was inspired by the potential that radiologic technology could have for the future of medicine, especially with regard to its less invasive image guided treatments, resulting in faster recovery and lower overall costs. He completed his internship in internal medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, his residency in diagnostic radiology at Harvard Medical School, and his fellowship in neuroradiology at Harvard Medical School. He is also board certified in both Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology.
Throughout his career, Dr. Osborne has been recognized for his contributions to the field, including being named to the Top People to Watch in Radiology by the Journal of Diagnostic Imaging in 2015. His medical research has been published in numerous medical journals and textbooks. He has recently coauthored and edited a textbook about the latest medical technology and advancements titled, Using Technology to Improve Care of Older Adults. He regularly lectures at national and internationally attended conferences on topics ranging from the future of health care, to the use of advanced sensors, and artificial intelligence in medicine. Dr. Osborne has recently accepted a broader leadership role as Chief Medical Informatics Officer for the entire VA Palo Alto Health Care System, and as Clinical Assistant Professor at Stanford Medical School. His goal is to collaborate with the exceptional people and resources at these institutions to positively transform healthcare.
