Born to Roy Joseph and Marcelle Udolf, Mr. Udolf originally entered the legal practice to become a prosecutor. He attended Hofstra University where he earned a BA in 1973, and received a JD from the Emory University School of Law in 1979. Upon graduation, he served as a law clerk to Judge Arthur W. Fudger of the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit in Georgia. He went on to serve as Assistant District Attorney in the Northeastern Circuit of Georgia before his election as District Attorney in 1982.
Mr. Udolf joined the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida in 1987, working in the appellate, major crimes, narcotics, and public corruption sections of the U.S. Department of Justice's Office in Miami. In 1992, he became Chief of the Public Integrity/Corruption section of that office and served in that capacity for five years before being tapped as Associate Independent Counsel in the Whitewater investigation by the Office of Independent Counsel in Washington, D.C. This investigation, which focused on alleged activity involving a sitting U.S. President, captured national attention.
After the notoriety of the Whitewater investigation, Mr. Udolf went on to serve as an attorney with several private firms, and eventually formed his own firm, Bruce L. Udolf P.A., in 2010. He has received the peer-reviewed rating of AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell for over ten years, and was named to the tier one ranking of U.S. News and World Report's Best Lawyer listings in the white collar and non-white collar criminal defense category. For three consecutive years, in 2016, 2017, and 2018, he was named Lawyer of the Year in the area of Criminal and White Collar Criminal Defense in South Florida by Best Lawyers in America.
Mr. Udolf also received the 1990, 1991, and 1994 Outstanding Achievement Awards from the United States Department of Justice, as well as commendations in 1997 from the United States Customs Service, Office of Internal Affairs; in 1994 from the Drug Enforcement Administration Office of Professional Responsibility; in 1992 and 1994 from the Director of the FBI; and in 1989 from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Mr. Udolf has served as a member of the Florida Bar Attorney-Client Privilege Task Force and has lectured extensively on numerous topics, including legal ethics and professionalism. He has contributed to several professional journals, including an article titled "Mortgage Fraud Now on the Rise" for the National Law Journal in 2007.
