In addition to his work at the lab, Dr. Porter served as a member of the divertor physics expert group for the Tokamak Experimental Reactor in Garching, Germany, from 1993 to 2000. He also volunteered at local schools in the region to teach science classes and serve as a special guest for lectures on physics.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Porter earned a PhD from Pennsylvania State University. As he established his reputation of excellence, he became involved with the American Physical Society to further develop his skills while deepening his practical knowledge. Dr. Porter's greatest achievement in his career includes achieving patents for guidance schemes for charged pellets for fusion. Considered an expert in his field, Dr. Porter has contributed many articles to scientific journals.
