Dr. Masatoshi Arai Celebrates More than 30 Years of Professional Excellence

    LUND, SWEDEN, January 25, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Masatoshi Arai has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With over 30 years of research experience, Dr. Arai currently works as the technical coordinator for the European Spallation Source in Lund, Sweden. Prior to this appointment, he held multiple positions in the Materials & Life Science Division at the J-PARC Center for the Japan Atomic Energy Agency, including section leader of the Neutron Science Section from 2005 to 2009, and the division director from 2009 to 2015. Previously, Dr. Arai served as a professor at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization from 1996 to 2010, an associate professor at Kobe University from 1992 to 1996, a visiting scientist at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory from 1990 to 1992, and as a research associate for the National Laboratory for High Energy Physics with the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization from 1985 to 1992.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Arai pursued an education at Tohoku University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in 1978, and a Master's Degree in 1980. He concluded his studies at Tohoku University in 1983, graduating with a Doctor of Science. Dr. Arai is affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has maintained active involvement with the Crystallographic Society of Japan since 2006, the Japanese Society of Neutron Science since 2001, the Institute of Physics since 2001, the American Physical Society since 1992, and the Japanese Physical Society since 1978. Additionally, his work has been published in more than 300 scientific papers and cited more than 3000 times in research. Dr. Arai also oversaw the construction of the J-PARC project from 2001 to 2009.

In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Arai has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his career. He was a postdoctoral fellow with Argonne National Laboratory from 1983 to 1985, and has been an Institute of Physics fellow since 2001. In 2012, he received an Award from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sport, Science, and Technology. Most recently, Dr. Arai was presented with the Prize of the Japan Society for Neutron Science on Technology for his development of a cold neutron chopper instrument in 2013.

Attributing his success to his pulsed neutron scattering technique, Dr. Arai enjoys cycling, gardening, and carpentry in his spare time. Looking towards the future, he hopes to continue cementing his status as a hard-working and versatile figure in his field whilst excelling among his colleagues and community in Lund.
