It is an independent business and spin-off from the University of Utah, where Dr. Zhdanov has been a professor in the department of geology and geophysics for more than 24 years and has since become a distinguished professor in 2016. Professor Zhdanov supervised more than 80 graduate students including M.S. and Ph.D.s during his career as an educator. At the University of Utah, Dr. Zhdanov founded an industry-sponsored Center for Electromagnetic Imaging Consortium (CEMI), that is supported by major national and international mining and petroleum corporations, geophysical exploration and research companies, and agencies from around the globe.
A former longtime professor in the department of geophysics at Moscow Gubkin State University, Dr. Zhdanov was first hired as an assistant professor in 1970. Teaching at the university for 22 years, he also headed the department and served as deputy director at the Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere and Radio Wave Propagation, at the USSR Academy of Sciences in Moscow from 1970 to 1990, and was founder and director of the Institute of Geoelectromagnetic Research, Russian Academy of Sciences, in Moscow from 1991 to 1992, before moving to the United States to continue to further his career.
In addition to teaching full-time, Dr. Zhdanov was a visiting professor at the Colorado School Mines, Golden, USA, Gauss professor at the Gettingen Academy of Sciences in Germany, and Lansdown visiting professor at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. He also authored several books, including "Advanced Theory of Deep Geomagnetic Sounding" in 1984, "Integral Transforms in Geophysics" in 1988, "The Geoelectrical Methods in Geophysical Exploration" in 1994, "Geophysical Inverse Theory and Regularization Problems" in 2002 (the second edition was published in 2015), "Geophysical Electromagnetic Theory and Methods" in 2009 (the second edition was published in 2017), and has contributed more than 300 papers in refereed journals in both Russian and English, as well as numerous monographs and dozens of other published papers. Several of his books were translated and published in Russian and Chinese. Boasting more than two dozen patents in his field, Dr. Zhdanov received an Outstanding Achievement Award in the development of science and technology from the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 2000, and was named Honorary Professor by the China National Center of Geological Exploration Technology in 1997. An elected honorary member of the Society of Exploration of Geophysicists since 2013, fellow of the Electromagnetics Academy of the U.S.A. and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Russia, and member of the American Geophysical Union, Dr. Zhdanov also upheld several roles throughout his career, including as chairman and vice chairman for various symposiums and workshops in his field.
Born in Moscow, Dr. Zhdanov earned a MS in Geophysics at Moscow State Oil and Gas University in 1968, and a MS in Mathematics in 1969, PhD in Physics and Mathematics in 1970, and Doctor of Sciences in 1978, all from Moscow State University.
