BOZEMAN, MT, February 01, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sandra W. Sutherland has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
In the 1970's, while searching for her mission in life, Dr. Sutherland found the program for teachers of the deaf at San Diego State University program that offered support for her training through a Federal Grant. Her PhD training was supported by her selection as a Teaching Associate during her training at University of Washington.
As an expert in her field, Dr. Sutherland holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art and Social Science from the University of Michigan. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from San Diego State University and later a PhD in Educational Communication and Technology from the University of Washington. Her doctoral dissertation is entitled "Miles Albert Tinker and the Zone of Optimal Typography", about how typographical choices affect the reading process. After teaching at the University of Washington and the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Sutherland returned to "the trenches" where she enjoyed preparing educational materials for both students and her fellow teachers as part of her mission.
A widely regarded writer, Dr. Sutherland has been an author and publisher with Iris Press (west) since 1996. In this role, she has helped research, design, and produce educational books, especially concerned with visual literacy education. As an author herself, she is known for her books, "Bicycle Training for the Triathlete* and Others", "NO BRAKES! Bicycle Track Racing in the United States", "Rainbow Quest: The Life of Audrey McElmury" and "Handsling: The Sequel to Breaking Away".
Since 1996, Dr. Sutherland has continued her work with Iris Press to educate the public on specialized subjects such as her latest book, "Deaf and Hard of Hearing Itinerant Consultation Guide" (2018). This guide seeks to teach educators how to best serve their students with hearing loss through teaching such skills as how to read audiograms along with understanding what to expect in cases of various degrees of hearing loss. This information is highlighted by stories from Dr. Sutherland's own 35 year experience in the field of deaf education. Three more books are planned for Iris Press.
