With nearly 20 years of professional experience, Dr. Kim currently holds the position of research assistant professor at the Severance Integrative Research Institute for Cerebral & Cardiovascular Diseases, a division of the Yonsei University College of Medicine. Prior to this position, he served in various academic roles over the past 20 years, such as lecturer on molecular and cellular gerontology for the Yonsei Graduate School of Yonsei University in 2015, adjunct professor for the College of Oriental Medicine at Sangji University from 2004 to 2008, researcher at the Cancer Research Institute of Seoul National University from 2002 to 2007, and as a research assistant in the Graduate School of Public Health at Seoul National University Department of Molecular Toxicology from 1997 to 2002.
Prior to his professional pursuits, Dr. Kim obtained a Bachelor of Science from the College of Life Science and Biotechnology at Korea University in 1996. He would continue his studies in the Graduate School of Public Health at Seoul National University with a Master of Science in 2001, as well as a PhD in Public Health in 2007. From 2007 to 2008, he completed postdoctoral work at the Cancer Research Institute at Seoul National University, followed by postdoctoral work at the Radiology & Medical Sciences Research Center in the Korea Institute of Radiology & Medical Sciences from 2008 to 2011.
Beyond his endeavors at Yonsei University, Dr. Kim has excelled in his research and literary endeavors related to his field. Since 2014, he has been recognized as a designated expert by the Korean Scientists & Engineers Network (KOSEN21). Additionally, he has been appointed to several editorial boards, including that of Annals of Vascular Medicine and Research, Jacobs Journal of Allergy and Immunology, Neuroscience Communications, Oncology Communications, and Current Updates in Gerontology. He has also contributed reviews to such publications as the Korean Society for Oriental Preventive Medicine, Life Sciences, Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology, Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, and The Journal of Veterinary Medical Science. Additional publications to which he has offered his expertise via external reviews include Phytotherapy Research, Nutrients, Experimental and Therapeutic Medicine, Oncotarget, and the Journal of Inflammation Research. He has served as a guest speaker at multiple presentations, and has contributed chapters to books as well as articles to professional journals.
In addition to the personal sense of accomplishment from his ever-growing career, Dr. Kim has received numerous accolades over the last several years. Over the course of his career as a research fellow at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Harvard Medical School from 2011 to 2014, he earned Travel Awards from the United States-Korea Conference in 2013 as well as the 20th Annual National Institute on Aging (NIA) Summer Meeting in Experimental Aging Research via the Buck Institute for Research in 2012. He has been supported by Oversea Post-Doctoral Fellowship of the Korea Research Foundation from 2011 to 2012, and received a Research Accomplishment Award from the Korea Institute of Radiology & Medical Sciences in 2010.
