THOUSAND OAKS, CA, February 08, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Elizabeth Miller with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Miller celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A former high school mathematics teacher and guidance counselor for the New York City Board of Education for 30 years, Ms. Miller previously served as an assistant to the chief physicist for Air Reduction Company in the City from 1947 to 1953, after first earning a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering at City College in New York. Eventually going back to college to complete a Master of Art in mathematical education, she earned her degree in 1965, just five years after moving into education.
Dedicating all of those years to education, Ms. Miller officially retired from the field in 1990. Known for her dedication in the field and tireless efforts among students, she not only set up mathematics laboratories for grades K-12 students, but she also taught mathematics to children with visual aids, was in charge of conducting research to find out what aids were available to students in an effort to make number concepts more realistic for children, and even acquired patents for visually learning mathematical operations with signed numbers.
After retirement, Ms. Miller found herself following her second passion, one which involves the arts. Receiving a Second Place Award by the Santa Paula Art Association for one of her pieces in 2005, her artwork has been on display at one-woman shows across California for the past decade, including at the Camarillo Center for Spiritual Living, the Harbor Village Gallery, the Thousand Oaks Botanic Gardens and the Buena Ventura Art Gallery. Her work has also been represented at permanent collections in the city of Oxnard, CA. Ms. Miller focuses her paintings on landscapes, flowers and local landmarks in and around Thousand Oaks, CA, where she lives, by use of watercolor.
Locally, Ms. Miller served on the board and is a member of the Thousand Oaks Art Association, is a former president of the Riverdale Temple in the Bronx, NY, and former secretary and president of the Society for Women Engineers' northeast region. She has also been a longstanding member of the Westlake Village Art Guild and the Arts Council of Conejo, a charter member of the Regional Art Museum, member and exhibiting artist of the Ventura County Maritime Museum, and member and former recording secretary of the Peripheral Neuropathy Support. She was married to her husband Alfred Abraham Miller and has two sons and two grandsons. For more information, please visit www.elizabethmillerart.com.
