With more than 25 years of experience as an athlete and trainer, Ms. Brown has served as the chief executive officer with J&G Brown Properties, Inc. since 2007 to the present, having been a coach, exercise physiologist, trainer, and weight room manager with Collins Perley Sports Center since 1987. In addition, she is the president of Northern Power Weightlifting Club, where she specializes in coaching Olympic-style and competitive weightlifting.
Ms. Brown holds a Bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Toronto, and a Master's degree from the University of Vermont. An expert in the field, she co-wrote an article on heat thermo-physiology, which was published by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. As a weightlifter, she has won numerous competitions, including the World All-Round Weightlifting Championships in Boston, MA, and London, UK, and she established 18 world records in the sport.
Ms. Brown was inspired at an early age by women in sports, most directly by Kathrine Switzer, the woman who joined the Boston Marathon under a pseudonym to circumvent rules against allowing women. Upon being discovered, she was chased and nearly run off until several others rallied to support and defend her so that she could finish the race. Ms. Brown took the lesson to heart, entering weightlifting, a predominately male sport. As she looks to the future, Ms. Brown intends to continue inspiring others to achieve what others may believe they cannot.
