NEW YORK, NY, February 15, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Pamela Ann McCorduck with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. McCorduck celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A longtime writer who was born in Liverpool, England, Ms. McCorduck found her way to the U.S. in 1946. She is the author and co-author of nearly a dozen published fiction and non-fiction books that most cover the history and philosophical significance of artificial intelligence, and, more recently, the sciences of complexity. Publishing her first book in 1971, "Familiar Relations" was followed by the 1972 book "Working to the End" and "Machines Who Think" in 1979. That same year, "Machines Who Think" was cited by the New York Public Library as a book of particular merit. Twenty-five years later, the journal AI Magazine devoted a two-page article to the book's quarter century of influence. Ms. McCorduck published a 25th anniversary edition of the book in March 2004, which was accompanied by an extensive afterword to bring the history of artificial intelligence up to date.

More recently, Ms. McCorduck authored "The Edge of Chaos" in 2007 and "Bounded Rationality" in 2012; two novels in a trilogy series that are centered on a group of characters formally or informally connected with the Santa Fe Institute and its revolutionary research into the sciences of complexity. Notably, "The Edge of Chaos" was short-listed for Best Fiction in the 2008 New Mexico Book Awards.

Recognized as an international best seller alongside co-author Edward A. Feigenbaum, Ms. McCorduck's 1983 "The Fifth Generation: Artificial Intelligence & Japan's Computer Challenge to the World" analyzes the potential and the consequences for the U.S. of Japan's all-out effort to produce the fifth generation of computers within 10 years. Notably, all of Ms. McCorduck's non-fiction books have been translated into every major European and Asian language. Her work has appeared in various professional publications, magazines, and newspapers such as Cosmopolitan and The New York Times, and she has personally appeared on many television shows, including PBS's News Hour and the CBS Evening News.

A contributing editor to Wired who formerly spent 10 years as a lecturer at Columbia University, Ms. McCorduck has done consultant work for numerous films and other companies in the high technology, financial, and transportation sectors and has co-authored commissioned studies on women in information technology for the National Sciences Foundation and on women in design for a large, international design firm. A longtime member of The Century Association and former member, board of directors, and vice president of the American PEN, Ms. McCorduck also served on a panel to advise the National Academy of Engineering about the future of the field.

Ms. McCorduck earned her undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley, followed by a Master of Fine Arts at Columbia University. Splitting her time between her two homes in New York and Walnut Creek, CA she continues to write in her leisure.

Her husband of 48 years, Joseph F. Traub, died in 2015.

She has been highlighted in nearly a dozen editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who of American Women. For more information, visit www.pamelamc.com or www.goodreads.com/author/show/571620.Pamela_McCorduck.
