AURORA, CO, February 16, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Nicole L. Draper has been included in Marquis Who's Who. An expert in the field of medicine, Dr. Draper is an associate professor of clinical practice in the Department of Pathology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, associate medical director of transfusion services at the University of Colorado Hospital and Longs Peak Hospital., and associate director of collection of the FACT Adult Cellular Therapy Program at University of Colorado Hospital. She is also currently a faculty senate representative for the Department of Pathology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, as well as a staff physician, at the Denver VA Medical Center, Children's Hospital Colorado, UCHealth Broomfield Hospital, and UCHealth Grandview Hospital. To top it off, Dr. Draper has been the director of the pathology course for the Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant program at the University of Colorado since 2011. She has lectured and been an invited key note speaker at national conferences.
Dr. Draper began her career as a student at Snow College, obtaining an Associate of Science in 1996, going on to complete a Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, in applied mathematics at Weber State University in 1998 while serving as a certified master tutor and supplemental instructor of biochemistry. She then studied at the University of Utah School of Medicine, earning an MD in 2003, also working as a USMLE Step 1 preparation course instructor with the biochemistry and female reproductive sections in 2003. She joined the University of South Florida as a resident of anatomic and clinical pathology from 2003 to 2006, and as chief resident from 2006 to 2007. From 2007 to 2008, she completed a fellowship in oncologic surgical pathology with the school's Moffitt Cancer Center, and from 2008 to 2009 she completed a fellowship in blood banking and transfusion medicine with the Puget Sound Blood Center.
A respected voice in the field of transfusion medicine, Dr. Draper is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Society for Apheresis, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, AABB, and the Colorado Association for Continuing Medical Laboratory Education. She has also served as an inspector for the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program since 2013, an assessor for the AABB Accreditation Program since 2015 and on the Trauma Committee at the University of Colorado Hospital since 2009. She has contributed to a number of articles in the Journal of Clinical Apheresis, the Journal of Clinical Lipidology, the American Journal of Clinical Pathology, and many more. Along with other scholars, she has co-written "venous access for hematopoietic progenitor cell collection: an international survey by the ASFA HPC donor subcommittee" and "Dispermic chimerism identified during human leukocyte antigen typing for stem cell transplantation." She is certified in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology as well as blood bank and transfusion medicine by the American Board of Pathology.
Dr. Draper has been recognized for her contributions to the field, earning such awards as the Jeno Szakacs Research Award for Outstanding Presentation from the University of South Florida, several Summit Awards from the University of Colorado for excellence in resident teaching, the Tutor of the Year Award for Student Support Services from Weber State University, and the Olga V. Alexandria Logan Scholarship. She was inducted into Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society while at Weber State University.
She attributes her professional success to an insatiable desire to understand the world around her, and most importantly the human body, combined with a strong work ethic. She is a regular platelet donor, holds season tickets to the ballet, touring musicals and local dinner theater and has a goal to visit all of the U.S. National Parks. She enjoys crocheting, trying new foods, and cardio-kickboxing. In the coming years, Dr. Draper intends to continue contributing to excellent patient care with implementation of new knowledge and technologies, and to provide the best education for the next generation of health care professionals.
