Practicing law for nearly five decades, he formerly spent 25 years as partner of Ikard & Golden and 16 years as partner at Clark, Thomas, Winters & Shapiro. He also spent several years as managing partner at Jenkens & Gilchrist, all in Austin. Handling legislative matters involving trusts and estate law, Mr. Ikard specializes in fiduciary litigation and trust administration matters. He completed his undergraduate degree and JD at The University of Texas at Austin in 1965 and 1968, respectively, and was admitted to practice by the Texas Bar Association in 1968.
Mr. Ikard has written and lectured extensively in the areas of probate and trust law and fiduciary litigation, most recently including the article, "Ten Things That Every Trust Beneficiary in Texas Should Know" in May 2014. A member of numerous professional organizations, he has also served as chairman of the real estate, probate, and trust law section of the State Bar of Texas, as co-founder and chair of the Texas Academy of Trust and Estate Lawyers, and as president of the probate and trust law council of the Texas Academy of Real Estate. He is an elected fellow of the American College of Probate Counsel and the Texas Bar Foundation.
Mr. Ikard is a former member on the board of directors for the Greater Austin Crime Commission, and is a former member of the University of Texas's chancellor's council and the University of Texas Law School dean's roundtable.
