A widely regarded voice in the field of special education, Ms. Pinching has served as an assistive technologist with Carlsbad Municipal Schools for more than a decade. In addition, she has been recognized as the president of the Carlsbad Blind/Low Vision Support Group since 2014. Since the inception of her career, Ms. Pinching has been recognized as a presenter at two disability conferences in Las Cruces, NM. She maintains involvement with a variety of industry organizations, including the National Education Association. Ms. Pinching serves on the Board of Directors of Choices and has served in this position for 25 years. She has also been a member of the Pilot Club until it was dismantled in Carlsbad.
Ms. Pinching was initially inspired to become a teacher when she was just 8 years old. As a child, she would often use her imagination to play school instead of house. Although Ms. Pinching enjoyed the study of mathematics, she ultimately chose to focus on special education. She went on to attend New Mexico State University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in education, elementary education and special education in 1976, and Master of Education in 1991. Ms. Pinching has been recognized as a certified elementary and special education teacher in New Mexico.
Early in her career, Ms. Pinching served as a teaching assistant with Las Cruces Public Schools and teacher of special education for the Fort Stanton School and Hospital. She joined Carlsbad Municipal Schools as a special education teacher in 1979 and then became an assistive technologist specialist in 1991. She is also recognized as the former owner of Deb's Technologies, a business she maintained for more than a decade. Since the turn of the century, Ms. Pinching has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the World.
Outside of her career as an educator, Ms. Pinching is a committed member of her community and a former foster parent and foster parent trainer. In her spare time, Ms. Pinching enjoys crocheting, computer programming and cooking.
