Mr. Michod, of Kelly, Olson, Michod, DeHaan & Richter, LLC, a Chicago law firm that was originally founded in 1872, and provides legal services for banks, corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, trusts, real estate developers, private entrepreneurs, small business owners and individuals, joined the firm as partner in 1994. Representing entities and individuals with general business and contractual relationships for the past 33 years, Mr. Michod also maintains a real estate transaction and development practice that includes Limited Liability Company, partnership and limited partnership entities as well as clients on real estate tax valuations and assessments.
Earning a BA at Princeton University in 1965, and JD at the University of Michigan in 1968, Mr. Michod was then admitted to the New York State Bar and the Illinois State Bar. Beginning his law career in New York City as an associate for Shearman & Sterling, he then worked for Hopkins & Sutter in Chicago for several years before becoming partner at Martin, Craig, Chester & Sonnenschein, LLP, in Chicago in 1972, where he remained for 22 years before accepting the opportunity to work at his current firm in 1994. For the past near 30 years, Mr. Michod has been an owner of DePaul Development and Carpenter Ventures in Chicago and other real estate entities responsible for Skybridge, a 42 story multiuse structure in the West Loop, and numerous other properties on the Northside.
Throughout his career, Mr. Michod has been active in volunteer legal services for nonprofit organizations. Beginning with service with Vista Legal Services of the U.S. Government in the late 1960's he served as legal counsel for the Chicago Architecture Foundation and Francis W. Parker School among others.
A former president of the Law Club, member of the advisory council for the Illinois Historical Sites, and longtime member of several other organizations such as the American Bar Association, the University of Chicago Club, the Economic Club of Chicago, and the Chicago Investors Society, Mr. Michod received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Lawyers Club of Chicago, a Certificate of Merit from the Illinois Department of Conservation, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Lincoln Park Conservancy for his tireless efforts over the years. Currently, he serves as a trustee of the HH Harris Foundation since 2010, managing trustee of the Nuveen Benevolent Trust since 1997, and member of the board of governors for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since 1990. He formerly served as chairman and board of trustees for Oxbow, Inc., from 1995 to 2001.
Married with three children, Mr. Michod loves to play golf and squash in his down time. He also enjoys jazz and the arts. He has been highlighted in several editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Law for his work.
